Are you a newbie to the concept of artsy journaling? Perhaps you've doodled here and there, played with a sticker or two, but haven't fully dedicated a session to that creative side of you.
Want to start? You've come to the right place!
Let's go over the basics:
- Believe it. Some of you don't need this step and some of you do. Believe that you can artsy journal.
- Pick your medium: maybe you want to sticker a whole bunch of pages and use a few markers or colored pencils. By choosing one medium, you have given yourself focus and the opportunity to learn, explore, and create a skill before moving on to others. Pick one medium. That's it.
- Schedule it: Planning the day and time takes you from "I think I'll try this one day" to "I'm going to try this on Wednesday."
- Make it private. While journaling is a solo endeavor by nature, make your setting private. This isn't the time for the coffee shop journaling. After all, it's your first go-round! Sometimes we need a little space before we feel comfortable making the effort public.
- Anyone can artsy journal, but sometimes we set expectations that don't fit with the result. It will take time for your mind, your eye, and your hand to work as one while exercising creativity. You can do it!
